Cataracts affect more than 22 million Americans age 40 and older.

A cataract is a painless, cloudy area in the lens of the eye that blocks the passage of light to the retina. The nerve cells in the retina detect light entering the eye and send nerve signals to the brain about what the eye sees. Because cataracts block this light, they can cause vision problems. Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss and will negatively impact your daily life.
Aging and exposure to UV sun rays are the most typical causes of cataracts. Cataracts can also occur after an eye injury or eye disease, use of certain medications, higher alcohol consumption, nutritional deficiency, smoking or as a result of diabetes.

Cataract Symptoms:
» Cloudy, fuzzy, foggy, or filmy vision
» Glare or Halos from lamps or the sun
» Difficulty driving at night due to glare from headlights
» Frequent changes in eyeglass prescription
» Double Vision
» Difficulty doing daily activities because of vision problems

Dr. Nota recommends for those with cataracts:
» Increasing light for reading
» Wearing a good pair of sunglasses with proper UV protection
» Polarized lenses for Sunglasses to reduce glare
» Anti-glare coatings on clear lenses can help reduce glare for night driving Vision with Cataracts

Treatment for cataracts is normally surgery. Dr. Nota will monitor your Cataract(s) and recommend surgery when the time is right.
